Feature: 5 Bands That I’ve Recently Discovered, And Love

Parcels –

I saw these guys whilst at All Points East festival in London last weekend and fell in love with them straight away. Their infectous grooves are undeniably influenced by the great Bee Gees and electronic duo Daft Punk, who they have recently worked with on their single ‘Overnight’. Originaly from Byron Bay in Australia, they’re now based in Berlin.

Pianos Become The Teeth –

I got introduced to this band after buying a vinyl from Epitaph Records, via a promotional leaflet. Being a fan of the label I thought I’d check them out, and how thankful I am that I did. Hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, the American band have easily become one of my favourites, their new album ‘Wait For Love’ is out now.

Goat Girl –

I’d heard a lot about this band before checking them out, at first it was the aesthetics, and to be truthful, the fact that it was an all–girl punk band, but then the music, substance and creativity made me stay. Hailing from South London their self-titled debut album, released via Rough Trade, is 40 minutes of blistering tales of living in the city, whilst tackling social issues such as sexual harassment and gentrification.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra –

S/o Ty Dolla $ign, because it was his post on Twitter that led me to check this band out. After listening to their new abum ‘Sex & Food’ I was sold. From New Zealand, the band deal in psychedelic rock, but flitter across many genres including funk and neo-pop. Founded by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ruban Nielson, the band formed in 2011 after the release of Nielson’s Bandcamp break-through track ‘Ffunny Ffrends’.

The Wonder Years –

I’ve only recently discovered The Wonder Years after listening to their new album ‘Sister Cities’, which was released via Hopeless Records in April. Hailing from Philadelphia the band are noted for their introspective views, whilst maintaining the musical idioms that we have come to love from the modern era of pop-punk.
